Girl
Dinner

PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT DURATION
Our users are busy working individuals, college freshmen and new parents.
August 2023- on going.
Girl dinner was created to reduce food waste in the average house hold using AI. Users have the option to insert all the food they have into the app and have AI create them custom recipies. Or, if they are starting from scratch they can select meals first and AI will create a grocery list.
The app was create with a mobile design first so more people could accesses the app. It also made sence for the app to be made for mobile and tablet as those devices are easiest to use while cooking
THE PRODUCT
THE PROBLEM
The average American house hold waste 31.9% of food. From my own research I found out people were throwing away food because it had gone bad before they could eat it. with a magority of people saying htey had no idea what to do with it or forgot that they had the food until it started to smell.
THE GOAL
The goal we have for girl dinner was to reduce food waste in the home and encourage people to cook. we wanted to take away the stress and uncertainty around grocery shopping and cooking.

USER RESEARCH:
SUMMARY
I conducted secondary research to figuring out on average how much food the common house hold wasted a year and each day.
After I conducted my own primary research to figure out how much food people were wasting and why. The most common problem I found was food was going bad before it was being eaten.
I also found out it was more common for young parents, young adult and college students to waste food; thus confirming my main user group.
USER RESEARCH:
PAIN POINTS
New parents, young adults and college students have the lest amount of free time to spend on grocery shopping, cooking and keeping track on food inventory.
TIME
Affording groceries weekly can be a common challenge for this user group.
FINANCIAL
ACCESSIBILITY
Going grocery shopping can be challenging for those with disabilities.

LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The Low fidelity Prototype didnt show much as the idea for girl dinner was stil developing. At this stage the idea for the app was user would input their food inventory and AI would create custom recipes form what the users had at hand. The app also included an articles page for users to learn new kitchen skills.
ROUND ONE OF FINDINGS
The main user problem point that was addressed pretty quickly is users would not be inclined to enter all of the food that they have in their home into the app.
As well users were confused as to what the app was and how to use it. They needed a clear intro before they understood what to do.

MOCK-UP
An introduction was added as well as one to three questions at a time for users to set up their profile
HIGH-FIDELITY: STARTING PAGE
Sends the user to the recipes page to browes and create meal plan. then the app create a grocery list for the user
Pop up welcome sets the app to the users needs
Sends the user to the inventory page that allows the users to input food they have in the how and start creating recipes
Scroll through key word search
MOCK-UP: RECIPES PAGE
Search Bar to quick search recipes
Recommended recipes based off of preferences
Scroll through meals of the day
MOCK-UP: HOME PAGE

ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATION
Color palette was checked
Text style and size were considered for accessibility
Icons paired with text for screen readers
language options avalible in settings
App gestures were kept simple
multiple options for data entry
TAKEAWAY
WHAT I LEARNED
IMPACT
Through out this process I’ve learned that what is considered easy for me is not necessarily something another person can or would want to do.
I figured out for users to input data there needs to be multiple options that best suit the user.
“My partner and I just had a huge fight over food waste. I was cleaning out the fridge and didnt realize how much food we were wasteing. it was aweful. It would have never happened if we had this app”-Andres 24
“There is no way I would go around my house inserting all the food that I have into this app. I like how there is the option to go recipe first. I select my recipes then shop”-Nick 25
Grocery delivery
NEXT STEPS
Improve Design
A goal for Girl Dinner is to have the option to pair the app to your Walmart account of Insta Cart so once you have your AI generated grocery list you can send it off to be delivered right to your door.
There is alwasy more to learn and grow. While my design knowledge grows I hope to update the design of the app
Thank you
